Green health is about harnessing the power of natural spaces – green and blue – to support better health and wellbeing outcomes.
From greenspaces like parks and woodlands to ‘blue spaces’ like lochs and coastlines, these environments play a vital role not only in improving people’s lives but also in reducing health inequalities.
A key initiative leading the way in green health by bringing together people with a wide range of skills and knowledge, is the Green Health Learning Network (GHLN) coordinated by Public Health Scotland.
What is the Green Health Learning Network?
Launched in January 2025, the GHLN is a national network connecting individuals and organisations involved in the development, planning, or delivery of green health to improve the health and wellbeing of the population.
It’s open to all NHSScotland staff and other partner organisations too – it’s a collaborative, multi-sector effort that reflects the many forms and approaches of green health activity.
The GHLN hosts quarterly events featuring speakers from across sectors who offer diverse perspectives and practical examples of green health in action – helping to spark ideas, inspire collaboration, and support shared learning among members.
To foster collaboration and connectivity across sectors, the GHLN offers a dedicated MS Teams channel and an email distribution list. By joining, you’ll gain access to the latest news, event invitations, post-event recordings, practical resources, and a supportive space for collaboration and shared learning in green health.
How can you get involved with the GHLN?
Whether you are directly involved in green health or simply interested in learning more, everyone is welcome to join the GHLN.

Call for sustainability networks
There are many more sustainability-focused groups and networks right across NHSScotland. We’re keen to hear about them – the grassroots groups as well as more formal or ‘official’ networks, so please get in touch by emailing nss.sustainabilityscotland@nhs.scot
